LEX ANGLO BRASIL CORRUPTION SEMINAR - "WHY CORRUPTION WILL NOT PAY ANY MORE IN BRAZIL" - 30 September 2015 Canning House
British international lawyer Barry Wolfe, a leading specialist in anti-corruption compliance and the investigation of corporate corruption in Brazil, will speak at the seminar on Why Corruption Will Not Pay Anymore in Brazil, 30 September 2015 Canning House. The event will show investors the pitfalls of the UK and Brazilian law and how to adapt and align anti-corruption compliance to the reality of the Brazilian environment. Wolfe, Managing Partner of Wolfe Associates Anti-Corruption Advisers (www.wolfe.com.br), has practiced in Brazil since 1987. The tongue and cheek title of his talk is:BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION - BRAZILIAN STYLE AND HOW TO KEEP THE “FEDS” HAPPY. However, there is nothing light-hearted about what Wolfe has to say. He will present a systematic overview of the particular nature of corruption in the context of Brazilian culture. He will explain the huge corruption scandal known as “Operation Carwash” as a particularly Brazilian phenomenon rooted in the Portuguese legacy of paternalism and the effective “expropriation” of the wealth of the families behind the major construction companies involved in the scandal with executives and politicians being made personally responsible for the first time. Wolfe will show how compliance is only a first step. Being innocent is not enough. Companies must be able to be seen to be innocent and to prove their innocence. The seminar will be chaired by Robert Capurro, CEO of Canning House, the principal British forum for analyzing Latin American politics and economics. Presentations will be made by Edward Jenkins QC, a leading white collar crime silk and Neil Montgomery, Vice-President of Lex Anglo-Brasil and Managing partner of Montgomery & Associados Advogados.
